Family meeting
Every family needs to plan ahead and prepare for possible disaster. Ensure that each family member is aware of the nearest evacuation site and knows where to go and what to do.
Please talk with your family about
  • Where are the safe and dangerous parts of your house?
  • Where are the evacuation sites (rendezvous point and large refuge area)?
  • Choosing a safer way rather than the fastest route to the refuge area.
  • For large refuge areas, decide on a family member rendezvous point ahead of time
  • How will you contact each other?
  • Check the fire related appliances,
have the house repaired and keep the rooms tidy in everyday life.
  • What should you carry with you in case of an emergency?
  • Check the location of the fire extinguisher/first aid box and emergency kit.
  • Participate actively in disaster prevention training.

Emergency Kit and Stockpiles

Each family or individual's kit should be customized to meet specific needs. Place essential items into your backpack making sure you can carry it.
The weight should be kept under 15kg (under 10kg is recommended for women) and make sure you can move both hands freely.
To be self-sufficient after a disaster, you should have three days worth of water, food and daily items already prepared. Generally, three liters of water per person per day is needed. Have enough water stored to meet the needs of your family.
